Week Twenty-Eight: Feud

Without much disagreement, we’ve concluded that this week’s topic will be Feud. Sometimes short lived and benign, other times drawn out and embittered, these conflicts can occur between friends, families, countries, athletic teams and everything in between.

Here is an image from a book titled The Butter Battle Book, written and illustrated by another famous children’s author, Dr. Seuss. The book (published in 1984) is the Doctor’s poignant commentary on Cold War politics. Framed in the perspective of a young village inhabitant, it shows an escalating arms race that ends in a stalemate between two militants both possessing the “Bitsy Big-Boy Boomeroo.” This feud, like many others, started with the seemingly petty preference of which side of the bread should be buttered.

See you next Tuesday.
