Week Ten: Vice

This week's topic will be Vice. Against our better judgment, we occasionally succumb to these tempting and hurtful sides of our personalities, and inevitably, we end up feeling miserable soon thereafter.

At left is Tiziano Vecelli's Vanitas, the profane love. Despite the compulsion to look at her sullen reflection, Vanitas instead shows us the jewelry and purse sitting on her dresser and the handmaid in the far corner of the room, reminding us that narcissism can exceed the common physical fixation. Appropriately, art enables us to turn a mirror on ourselves, sometimes to our dismay.
